Only spirits obtained from white wines originating from the French production region of the same name may be traded as "cognac". When a German speaks of "cognac", he usually means brandy / brandy * in general. In other language areas too, the term for brandy and other spirits is derived from the word "cognac". But brandy and cognac are enjoyed - from bulbous glasses, in which the spirituouse is swirled before the first sip (cognac swivel) or from narrower, high-walled nosing glasses.
