A serving spoon, also called a potato or vegetable spoon, serves the purpose of serving vegetables, potatoes, rice and casseroles appropriately. Due to the relatively large, sometimes deep, spoon bowl, which is usually round rather than oval, and the long stem, it is more suitable for portioning and serving dishes than a tablespoon. With the perforated or slotted models, cooked dishes can be removed directly from the pot or pan, dripped briefly through the spoon and served directly on the plate.
